• I am working towards marketing myself and my skills well.

I am very ambitious and resourceful. To amplify this and to put my plan in action, I am going to be using GrokBot as my Chief of Branding/Marketing via X.

Waiting for my access to get confirmed and I shall be sharing everything that I learn along the way via this blog.

I shall also be sharing all the resources and articles that I come across while doing this.

  • Embracing inefficiency

Ever so often, I meet other people. Trying to create something and then, stopping between that creation and pondering over to other things without completing or releasing the first thing as they get bored trying to make the first thing efficient and perfect. This part of making stuff perfect is what goes against them.

They should just try doing the best with what they can, release and then, iterate.

I shall like to call this: Embracing inefficiency. Not purposely being inefficient but, a way to getting things out rather than just pondering over them. And based on my own experience, as one starts do it, the work they release starts to getting closer to what a perfect version would have been.

One can carry forward this idea to any aspect of their life.

I have done this with getting a bit fitter and working a bit faster.

  • I work at a corporate and most of the people there have been working longer than I have lived for and seem content with the usual visibility.

I often wonder what all I could do if I just learn to market myself properly. I mean, I made my first money off of the internet and I did it remotely for an Australian and American firm. I reached out to other people within my network and most of them didn’t really have any active online presence.

And if I shift my view from LinkedIn to X, stuff changes, a lot of people there are actively working on their outreach, trying to boost posts anyway they can.

PS: As I was writing up this post, I came across: https://explee.com/, I am yet to use it but, looks like a fun outreach initiative.

  • Last year, I had a chance to explore Assembly. Yep, although I have delved a bit into C, I have never really used it in any professional context and hence, my explorations with the same have been very limited.

For my day to day life, I just use high level languages (that is what I call them, I am not sure what the correct word would be): JavaScript, Python, English (yep, the natural language we speak).

Now, that we have an abundant access to information, I shall be exploring the things I use in a detailed sense instead of just using them. One can argue against the point of this but, I have always found it better for the brain to know the details along with the high level usage. After all, using a language and knowing how/why it evolved to be a certain way are different things.

Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science and even Engines (yep, everyone admires them yet don’t explore it to the ends). I shall keep posting here.

  • After I experienced this suspension thing with Github, which never really came to my mind while creating a profile many moons ago [yes, I edited the post to use this phrase :)], it got me thinking about having redundancies for an online presence, especially if one is a developer like me.

GitHub served as sort of the only major online visibility thing I had apart from LinkedIn (which too can get locked by the way; happened to me) and I was suddenly locked out of it without any quick means to recover it. Yep, I had been using it to store multiple repositories.

Interestingly, I had used the same GitHub profile to contribue a bit (like, very little, I think it was just a documentation change) to radicle.xyz and its entire purpose is to provide an alternative to Centralised code hosting platforms. But, given its usage and its nature, it ain’t really as famous of an option as GitHub. But, yeah, now I definitely get its use case.

I shall write another post explaining how radicle works. Could be a fun exploration and revision for me.

  • Creating a Bookshelf

The readme on previous GitHub profile used to have a recommended reads section.

Now, I feel like adding a bookshelf sort of page to this site listing all the books that I have read and how I found them to be and what I am currently reading. Or maybe I shall just keep it convienient and link up Goodreads? I think, Goodreads has a way to share the profile. Who knows, but yeah, I do wish to share about the books and it could also be a good conversation point for the reading club that I am a part of.

Update: I added the page here.

  • It was a Friday evening and I was casually writing up something for this site.

I had just managed to connect the domains and stuff and thought of googling my name to see what all shows up.

As expected, the results contained some X posts and GitHub repositories. But, the thing is, at that particular time, my GitHub profile had been suspended for reasons not fully clear to me.

As I scrolled down, I noticed that my profile was mentioned in certain cybersecurity articles.

Turns out, it was used by a North Korean group as part of a spam where they injected malicious scripts onto the system, most of these scripts were something that VSCode or an extension from it could run automatically. (Named: “PolinRider” by OpenSource Malware)

Last year, I had received some emails and LinkedIn messages asking me about certain Web3 repositories. I had asked all of those people to proceed with caution and report these repositories as they are not mine.

The thing is, it is very easy to impersonate someone via a commit. All one has to do is change the commit username and email in the local git config.

That is why it is always a good idea to setup GPG keys, which thankfully I had setup.

Anyways, after this discovery, I got in touch with Eastside McCarty from OpenSource Malware (one the sites that mentioned my account) via X and I also managed to detect a malicious script on my personal infrequently used laptop.

It was a fun exercise to go through all the shell histories and system logs to identify if I had a contact with an infected repo and if something from within those repositories was executed or not.

I shall leave those findings for another post.

  • Connecting back to my other post of why WordPress, I could have used Medium and I did try writing a bit on it but, it felt a bit weird writing for an audience. I wanted to write a lot there but, it just felt like I have to find a topic that others might like to read and something that could be interest to others.

This perspective was just putting me in a thinking spiral and pushing me away from the main motive: TO WRITE. Sure, my writing may not be perfect but, it will never improve unless I start with it and this is where this simple wordpress setup comes into play. I can write for an audience of one. Just for myself.

Yes, I shall be posting it to other platforms but, this site will be the one that gets it the first.

  • Why WordPress?

Even though I can build and maintain websites from scratch and have done it in the past (before Gatsby Cloud was merged in with Netlify and GitHub decided to suspend my account [this is another story]).

This time, I just wanted a place to write things upon without spending additional time on managing stuff. Yes, customising a site deign could be fun and I could just write on Medium. But, after the recent experience with GitHub, I wanted a better control over ownership of the posts and need to have the ability to recover things.

This ain’t a self hosted WordPress instance as of now. I might end up doing that, if need arises. And I shall be cross posting across Medium/Dev.to/Any other relevant platform. Of course, with appropriate tags so that the SEO thing works as expected.

AND GUESS WHAT, I CAN EASILY BLOG VIA PHONE AS WELL. THAT IS THE BEST PART. I tend to write (usually in a notebook) when I am in a cafe or something and don’t always have a PC or a laptop with me so, the phone part is convenient.

I shall be updating this site as I proceed further with it. Probably add a section for conferences that I have been to, fun projects that I have contributed to, etc., with time of course.

  • Hi! I am Nikkhiel Seath! 🙂

A Human, a voracious reader, learner of all the things detailed and a passionate explorer in this world!

I am a Programmer by craft and have been into it since I was 12. Games is what got me into it. Later, because of certain Discord servers that I joined, I got into Linux. It has been a fun ride after it.

Early on, I developed random websites and tried random video editing stuff for myself then, I got into this School club where I learnt about PHP and things around it.

Anyways, now, I work remotely from my home in India. Crafting applications for the web, one commit at a time. (Yes, I prefer keeping my commits atomic and and I like rebasing.)

I have a lot to share, this blog is where I shall do it.
